Tiny Reviews: Ikaruga

With the double-plus-good announcement that Ikaruga will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade, I figured this would be as good a time as any to give this tiny game a tiny review.
Yes, the game is rather short, clocking in at about 40 minutes, but a more perfect shooter (”shmup,” for the nerds) simply cannot be found. Only the game’s predecessor, the notoriously expensive Radiant Silvergun, can best this as far as shoot-em-up goodness.
And “em”s will be shot up, make no mistake about it. While this game doesn’t have quite as much firepower as many of it’s contemporaries, massive destruction isn’t the name of this game. Precision is the key, and being able to beat the game in one credit legally entitles you to an honorary PhD in brain surgery from Harvard.
Since we’re on the topic of legality, I should mention that when this game releases, all Xbox360 owners are legally obligated to get it. Not only will it be the best $10-20 you’ll ever spend, unless they seriously screw something up in the porting process, it will automatically be one of the (if not the) best game for the 360.
Here’s hoping for a Radiant Silvergun re release.
